Ash Wednesday
Lent is here! We observe it with prayer, fasting and alms giving. Each does their own good works and has it blessed by the superior through the bona opera. We also each take a book from the library and it is blest by the superior, too. We are to read it from cover to cover. Today is strict silence.
Lent is a time of joyful sorrow. Sweet sorrow of compunction, not morbid sorrow of depression.
On this website I intend to pause posting the Imitation of Christ. We have over 100 more chapters to include books three and four. What I will do is to post appendices that did not make the cut into the new book, Lectio Matters. Also, I'd like to post the complete set of footnotes, that had to be edited sharply to bring the manuscript back to its original promise of 300 pp.
I hope this will not disrupt readers, but as I teach here and there these footnotes would be a great reference. They will make more sense when the book is published in late May.
Then, after this little exercise I intend to post less text and more photography. I'll get a larger photo format and just continue to post a photo a day with a very short text.
I am just learning the strength of each medium. I find the capacity to share photography day by day a powerful tool. It reminds me of the practice of holy cards when I was a child. We each got a holy card on significant days. These holy cards formed my beliefs and burned in my heart a memory that was lasting.
